Rénovation de la Bourse, WIELS Project Room

WIELS Contemporary art center, Brussels BE - 15 September -  3 October 2021

‘Rénovation de la Bourse’ focused upon the specific event of the renovation of a metro stop in central Brussels. Paintings of the subterranean, embodied spaces of the metro are countered by 1:1 trompe l’oeil paintings of barrières de chantiers used throughout the streets of Brussels. The installation physically circulated the viewer through a set of visual obstructions and immersions. These localised references extends themselves into broader painterly concepts such as how abstraction and realism, or infrastructure and bodies, compose each other in reciprocity.
