Recreational Painting

Harlan Levey Projects 1050, Brussels  - 6 June - 7 July 2019

“Recreational Painting” was a set of paintings variously exploring depictions of a ‘leisure complex’. The show focused on the re-creation of imagery to think through notions of novelty, anachronism and painting’s ambiguous relationship with ‘free time’, a notion that we internalise with increasing complexity.

The basis for the works emerged from research in Paris at les fonds Jules Maciet, Bibliothèque du Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the manuscripts of Pierre Klossowski at la Bibliothèque Littéraire Jacques Doucet.
